Leeds are now monitoring striker Viktor Gyokeres – journalist

Journalist Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Leeds are monitoring Viktor Gyokeres and may prefer to sign the Sweden international over Ben Brereton Diaz.

Whites fans feel that the club have little excuse not to sign another striker before the deadline. It has been a source of frustration throughout the window.

And they have now lost Rodrigo to injury after Tuesday’s draw with Everton. So it would be a real gamble if Leeds let the window close without signing another goalscorer.

The problem is that Leeds may not be looking to spend big on another forward. And with that, there is obviously a chance that they could look further down the pyramid.

Reports have claimed that they want Brereton Diaz. But Jones has now suggested that the Coventry star is on their radar.

“They have half an eye on Gyokeres at Coventry, and I’ve still got a feeling that if they were to go down that route, they might end up turning to him instead (of Brereton Diaz),” he told Give Me Sport.

Leeds are monitoring Gyokeres

Gyokeres has been excellent since joining the Sky Blues permanently. The 24-year-old scored 17 goals in the Championship last season. And he is off the mark for this campaign, too.

Mark Robins said he is a player with ‘unbelievable‘ ability. And he may not cost as much as some of the top-flight names linked with a potential move to Elland Road.

But last season was, by far, the best year of his career to date. So it would still be a gamble to try and bring him to Elland Road before the deadline.

Having said that, the bigger risk may be letting the window shut without signing another player.
