Leeds feel very pleased by a piece of transfer business they are about to complete.
This summer is not the window of recruitment fans were hoping for after tasting defeat to Southampton in the Championship Play-Off Final, with plans focused around another attempt at promotion rather than Premier League survival.
Nevertheless, Leeds are still satisfied with a deal those at Elland Road are just about to sign off…
Leeds happy with Marc Roca sale
An update from Beren Cross of Leeds Live sheds light on how the Whites are feeling as Marc Roca prepares to join Real Betis.
It is said that Leeds are delighted to be getting the Spaniard’s wages off the salary bill, and are also pleased to be roughly breaking even on the sale.
The man from Vilafranca is believed to earn around £50,000-a-week.
Reports in Spain claim the deal is worth €12m (£10.1m) – which is practically around the same figure as the £10m Leeds spent to sign Roca from Bayern Munich in June 2022.
Ángel Haro García – President of Real Betis – has already revealed an agreement is close.
Cross wrote on X: “Progress this morning between Leeds and Real Betis. Marc Roca expected to seal permanent switch in coming days. United pleased to get wages off the books and will not mark up a loss on PSR with fee secured. Two years left on his deal after arriving for around £10m.”
The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at Real Betis, making 37 appearances under Manuel Pellegrini, so the permanent move comes as no surprise whatsoever.
£5m is needed upfront
Football transfers are usually paid in instalments, although Leeds need Real Betis to cough up at least £5m immediately.

Cross mentions in a more detailed story on Leeds Live that the Whites need £5m upfront to “not harm” their Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) situation.

In this day and age – even for clubs outside of the Premier League – that is not a large amount of money, so hopefully, Real Betis are able to do that for Leeds, and ensure finances remain in a decent shape.
