Leeds and Everton could sign Blackburn Rovers star Ben Brereton-Diaz for nothing, after the Championship club made a bold call on the striker.
Brereton-Diaz has once again been starring for Rovers this term. His goals are vital for the Lancashire side and after missing out on the playoffs last season, they sit in the promotion picture once again.
However, Brereton-Diaz’s contract runs out in the summer of 2023. That has previously alerted Leeds, who were linked in the summer, and more recently, Everton. And according to The Sun, both the Whites and Toffees could end up signing the Chilean international for absolutely nothing.

The Sun reports how Blackburn are willing to let Brereton-Diaz’s contract run down. It means they’re prepared to let him leave on a free next summer, in the hope his goals fire them to promotion anyway.
The striker’s availability will intrigue both Everton and Leeds. Frank Lampard has had to wheel and deal a bit in the market and a free transfer could suit. Leeds, meanwhile, are desperate for a striker to provide help and competition for Patrick Bamford.
TBR’s View: Brereton-Diaz worth a punt for Leeds or Everton
When you look at the players in the Championship who’ll be in demand in the summer, few will have more interest than Ben Brereton-Diaz.
The striker has been outstanding for Blackburn in the last 18 months. Goals, assists, and the movement of a striker who looks ready for the next step have caught the eye.
Dubbed an ‘extraordinary‘ striker by former Rovers manager Tony Mowbray, Brereton-Diaz suits the PL. On a free transfer, there won’t be much better value for money about next summer.
Both Leeds and Everton, then, need to get themselves on high alert here.
