Leeds already have one big obstacle to overcome as they try to sign Jonathan Rowe from Norwich

On the eve of the new Championship season beginning, Leeds United may have already identified their Crysencio Summerville replacement.

Daniel Farke’s side face Portsmouth in Saturday’s early kick off and will be without Summerville after the winger completed a move to West Ham United.

After failing to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, Leeds have lost a wealth of talent this summer, including the likes of Archie Gray and Glen Kamara.

Gray in particular played an incredibly important role last season, as did Summerville who netted 21 goals and provided 10 assists.

Leeds evidently can’t afford to enter the new season without attempting to replace those attacking numbers, even if they still boast a wealth of offensive talent.

Brenden Aaronson will hope to make a difference in that regard, returning from his loan at Union Berlin with renewed enthusiasm.

But according to The Telegraph, Leeds are now set to make an opening offer for Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe in the near future.

Leeds’ £7m offer for Jonathan Rowe likely to fall short of Norwich’s asking price

Farke is keen to raid his former club for 22-year-old Rowe who scored 13 goals and provided four assists last term.

Leeds are now looking short of genuine wingers, and that explains why Farke’s side are planning a £7m offer for Rowe.

However, the report believes that there is a sizable gap between the expected transfer fee for Rowe.

Norwich recently sold Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Sara to Galatasaray for a fee over £15m, and will perhaps be hoping to recoup a similar number if they sold Rowe.

Rowe predominantly thrives as a left-winger, cutting in on his right-foot in a similar fashion to Summerville did at Elland Road.

It’s obvious why Farke would envision Rowe as an effective replacement for the Dutchman, who admittedly doesn’t leave behind easy shoes to fill.

And with just days before Leeds begin their new season against Portsmouth, who have just been promoted from League One, there’s evidently a reason to act quickly.

That being said, Leeds have just pocketed a FFP boost after a recent announcement at Elland Road.
