Leeds 22-year-old admits he remains confident despite failing to score all season

Leeds United’s Tyler Roberts has insisted he’s “confident” he will break his record of not scoring so far this season.

Roberts, who has started the last four consecutive Premier League matches, is enjoying his best individual run in the team so far this campaign.

The 22-year-old has been starting in the attacking midfield position, where he’s encouraged to drop into positions behind forward Patrick Bamford.

He had a goal chalked off for offside in Monday night’s defeat to West Ham and it’s just not quite dropping for him.

The Welshman is yet to score in 17 games across all competitions, which is why he’s not been a nailed-on starter for manager Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road.

But Roberts has made it clear he still has faith in his own ability.

“It’s obviously something I’ve been waiting to do. It will come. I’m confident,” Roberts told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

TBR’s View:

Roberts very much looks like a squad player and has some way to go before he becomes a regular part of the starting XI.

The Wales international has on the whole wasted the opportunity handed to him due to Rodrigo’s absence, but with the latter’s return from a groin injury he could find himself back on the bench.

Roberts is definitely capable of intelligent moments on the ball and has a great work-rate.

Unfortunately, he’s still got plenty of improving to do to really make an impact in the top flight and at his age it’s all about trying to learn to develop his game, so criticism of him at this stage is understandable.
