Lee McCulloch responds to angry Rangers fan on Twitter

Lee McCulloch has come in for criticism from an angry Rangers fan on Twitter after urging Alfredo Morelos to be more professional following his altercation with Kilmarnock’s Kirk Broadfoot last weekend.

Morelos, 22, is on fire for the Teddy Bears and is loved by fans. He has scored 29 goals and created 11 more in assists. Without the Colombia international, Steven Gerrard’s side struggle.

Former Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot was seen scraping his studs on Morelos’ ankle, as the duo walked off the pitch at half-time. Morelos retaliated, pushing the veteran defender. He was shown a yellow card.

Ex-Rangers skipper McCulloch ranted about Morelos in his column with the Evening Times, telling him to be the bigger person and walk away. Fans have criticised McCulloch, with the account in question saying: “Expected more from you as an ex-captain”.

TBR’s view

Morelos was well within his rights to retaliate. The former HJK Helsinki striker – who joined Rangers for £1million (BBC) – has got a bad reputation after four red cards this season.

But now, he is an easy target for opposition. His reputation goes before him, and referees reckon he is guilty rather than innocent. In this case, he was more than innocent.

Broadfoot should have seen red for what is effectively a stamp off the ball. Pushing Broadfoot is more than acceptable, given Broadfoot’s actions.
