Bristol City boss Lee Johnson has been discussing his side’s failed approach to sign current Leeds United loanee Eddie Nketiah.

Leeds United snuck in at the last moment to snap up the Arsenal talent ahead of the Robins and he has been a big hit at Elland Road so far.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live (23/09/2019, 20:40, the Bristol boss admitted in conversation with Nketiah fan Ian Wright that he was disappointed to miss out on the player. However, he did question the game time he might be getting at Leeds compared to what would have been on offer at Ashton Gate.

“For me, I think the key thing for any young player is game time.

“That would have been the only question mark on Leeds and a club like that, is he going to get the pure game time that he would expect? Because, effectively, he could have done the 20-minute spells for Arsenal at the moment.

“It’s all about game time, I’m sure he’ll get that game time as time goes on. I think Leeds are a fantastic club with a top manager and he’s made that decision and good luck to him.”

So far, Nketiah has been a big success at Leeds United. However, he has also been used mainly as a substitute, a role he may have played at Arsenal this season. So in some respect, Johnson may have a point.

However, Leeds United is already looking like a great place for him to improve.

Nketiah has become a key member of the Leeds United squad and there is every chance he could push Patrick Bamford out of Marcelo Bielsa’s current starting XI.

Considering how popular he already is in the Leeds United team, it is looking like a smart move.
