Lee Erwin admits Leeds United move came too soon

Former Leeds United striker Lee Erwin wishes he was joining the club now. The Scottish attacker has been speaking to the Daily Record about his recent spell in Iranian football with Tractor Sazi.

It was clearly not an enjoyable time as Erwin compared it to ‘a prison’. However, the 25-year-old admits the experience has made him mature as a person. Coupled with becoming a dad, he feels if he joined Leeds United now, things might be a little different.

“I’m the first to admit the move to Leeds from Motherwell was a case of having too much, too soon.

“I was too immature to deal with all that came my way. I’m honest enough to admit there were times when I wasn’t as professional as I could have been.

“I’m not the type of person to harbour regrets but I wish I had the chance now to move to a club like Leeds as I’m no longer that kid of a few years ago who had so much growing up to do.”

It was in the summer of 2015 Leeds United snapped up the promising young Scottish forward from Motherwell. It was a move spearheaded by then Leeds chairman Massimo Cellino.

However, it did not work out for the attacker. He played just 12 times for Leeds and failed to score a single goal.

It was even suggested he might have been slightly overweight by former boss Steve Evans, as relayed by Inside Futbol.

Loan spells at Bury and Oldham Athletic were mixed and in 2017 he was told he could leave by Thomas Christiansen.

But prior to his Iranian nightmare, Erwin was finding form at Kilmarnock. Hopefully, he can find himself a good club this summer to showcase what this new found maturity will bring to his game.
