Lee Dixon hails West Ham star after international performance

Lee Dixon praised West Ham’s Jesse Lingard for his performance on Thursday night on the international stage.

Lingard, who is back in the England squad for the first time since 2019, started in last night’s 5-0 victory at home to San Marino.

England cruised to victory in the World Cup qualifier at Wembley and the West Ham attacker completed 90 minutes.

He was heavily involved in the final third with an assist for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as well as going close to scoring himself.

Lingard, who earns £75,000-a-week (Spotrac), is on loan right now at West Ham from Manchester United until the end of the season.

His record of five goals and three assists in seven West Ham appearances earned him a recall to the national side, which is why he perhaps now looks like an outside shot to go to this summer’s European Championships.

Pundit Dixon felt that the 28-year-old playmaker seized his opportunity in his latest England display.

“Certainly, Jesse Lingard played really, really well. He (Southgate) said he was fortunate to get in [the squad] because of injuries, but he’s took his chance. I thought he played really well tonight,” he told ITV.

TBR’s View:

If Lingard were to make a late surge into the squad for the Euros this summer, it would be a major surprise given he was frozen out at Old Trafford earlier in the season.

HIs loan to the London Stadium has been a genius move for all parties involved, and he’s thriving as the attacking midfielder right now for David Moyes’ West Ham.

He’s playing with a smile on his face again, which makes for an extremely dangerous player when he’s in this confident mood.
