Lee Dixon delivers verdict on £43m Premier League star that Arsenal reportedly tried to sign in the summer
Lee Dixon has told The Analysis Show that it would be “crazy” for Bernardo Silva to leave Manchester City – after Arsenal were linked in the summer.
Three-time Premier League winner Silva, 27, has become a regular in Manchester City’s side since his £43m (BBC) move to The Etihad in 2017.
Clocking up 210 appearances, the Portugal international has had a hand in 80 goals – scoring 36 goals and creating 44 more. He is crucial to City.
The Mirror claim that Arsenal tried to sign him in the summer from Manchester City, with Silva tempted by a move – after Jack Grealish joined.
Arsenal icon Dixon, who is a childhood Manchester City fan, gave his verdict on Silva – just weeks after the Gunners were linked with a move.
“David Silva was my fave City player, Bernardo has taken over – I just love watching him play. The thought of him leaving Man City seems crazy to me.
“He ran the show at Anfield the other day. I don’t know if he got man of the match, but he got my man of the match. Absolutely brilliant,” Dixon said.
Dixon on Silva: Arsenal would be in top six with Manchester City star
Silva’s performance on Sunday was absolutely stunning. As Dixon says, if it had not been for Phil Foden and Mo Salah sparkling, Silva would be MOTM.
The ex-Monaco and Benfica midfielder was nearly perfect. WhoScored say he produced the most dribbles, and the joint-most tackles.
It proves just how all-round a midfielder Bernardo has become. No longer is he an attacking midfielder, but more of a workhorse in midfield.
In Arsenal’s side, alongside Thomas Partey and behind Martin Odegaard – the Gunners would surely have all the tools to return to the top six.
