Nicolas Pepe has admitted his frustration at a lack of game time this season under Mikel Arteta but Lee Dixon has responded to his comments in a non-forgiving manner – hammering the Ivorian with a three-word Tweet.
Pepe, 25, has managed just one Premier League start all season and although the former Lille man has played 12 times in all competitions – six of those have come from the substitutes bench in England’s top tier.
A £72million signing in the summer of 2019, Pepe has struggled to shine in north London – showing glimpses of quality but failing to produce that form on a regular basis. Now, he has spoken of his frustration at his game time.
“My goal is to play more,” Pepe told Canal+. as per The Mirror. “A player who plays is happy. For me, I would like to play a little more to find a smile again. The coach speaks to me. It is frustrating for any player to be on the bench.”
TBR’s view – Surely Pepe needs the game time to ‘play better’?
Yes, he has the chance to impress in the Europa League but he is doing that. He has scored two of his three goals in Arsenal’s bid to qualify from the group stage. Instead, it is the big wages of Willian that is keeping him out.
Willian was signed in the summer but has struggled to recapture his Chelsea form. However, he continues to remain first choice given his wage – would Arsenal really shell out such a figure, only to bench him shortly after?
Pepe deserves a chance, but he simply is not getting it.
