Lee Clark has told Tribal Football that Newcastle United’s potential new owners should consider “realistic” moves for Philippe Coutinho and Wilfried Zaha this summer – as a takeover remains reportedly close.
Newcastle have been linked with a whole host of players this summer as Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed bid draws closer to completion. However, there have been delays in the process, which has seen doubt creep in over a deal.
Talk of new players has not subsided, though. Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho, who is on loan at Bayern Munich, has been strongly linked with Newcastle and a whole host of other Premier League sides.
ESPN claim Newcastle are want Coutinho could cost around £70million. Meanwhile, The Sun claim Newcastle want £60million-rated ace Zaha, potentially costing a combined £130million. Clark thinks both are good signings.

“Philippe Coutinho and Wilfried Zaha are realistic signings for me. [Coutinho] needs to get his career back on track to where he was when he was back in the Premier League with Liverpool,” Clark said.
“Certainly those players would be of interest and could have a strong interest in Newcastle United and joining at the start of what could be a huge project,” Clark added.
TBR’s view – It all depends on the takeover
The club’s potential new owners can contact agents and send out enquiries, but until they are the club’s official owners and an announcement has been made – they can make no solid efforts to sign players.
Coutinho and Zaha would be stunning additions and combining with the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron, Newcastle would boast one of the best final thirds in Premier League football.
But it all depends if a takeover goes through.
