Lee Carsley makes claim about Tottenham starlet Oliver Skipp

England under-21 boss Lee Carsley has labelled Oliver Skipp very underrated and insisted that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is going to get better – in comments reported by Football London.

Skipp is enjoying a fantastic start to the campaign. Of course, he went into the season off the back of a brilliant spell on loan with Norwich.

He has been a key part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. And he looks to have established himself as a member of Spurs’ strongest lineup.

He is now away with the Three Lions’ youngsters. And he clearly has a big admirer in Carsley, with the under-21 boss outlining just how impressed he has been by the Tottenham academy graduate.

“I’ve known Oli for a while. He’s very underrated,” he said, as reported by Football London. “He’s one of those players that when they are not in the team you notice them. He goes about his business really well. Works on his game. I think he’s still got a lot of development to do.

“He’s going to get better, he’s going to get stronger. Physically he’ll improve the older he gets. He has outstanding ability and I’m sure Tottenham see that as we have as well over the years.”

Tottenham fans may be some way off learning full potential of Oliver Skipp

Carsley went on to insist that it is not out of the question for Skipp to make the England squad for next year’s World Cup.

It is a huge statement. But right now, there seems to be no way that you can rule the 21-year-old out of the running.

He has stepped up year on year. Skipp was one of the best players in the Championship last season.

He is now looking hugely impressive for Spurs in the Premier League. And he only needs to look at how Kalvin Phillips went from being a Championship player to a key man for Gareth Southgate’s side in less than 12 months for inspiration.

There is work to do for Skipp. But he looks to have the kind of personality where he will not allow himself to become complacent.
