Lee Bowyer says plenty of clubs want Rangers-linked Lyle Taylor

Lee Bowyer has told Sky Sports’ The Football Show on Wednesday (10.20am) that Charlton Athletic striker has a “queue of clubs” ready to sign him on a free this summer – amid reported interest from Rangers.

Taylor, 30, has been in stunning form for the Addicks over the past couple of seasons after moving to The Valley in the summer of 2018. He scored 25 goals and laid on 13 assists as Charlton gained promotion in 2018-19.

This time around, Taylor has been limited to 22 appearances due to injury – scoring 11 times in the Championship. However, that 1-in-2 form has seen clubs become interested, with Taylor out of contract this summer.

Indeed, Taylor does not want to play the remaining fixtures for Charlton given his current contract situation – as he and two other Charlton players are worried injury could affect a future move this summer.

TeamTalk state that Rangers are one of a number of clubs keen on Taylor but face competition from a number of English clubs including Premier League trio Bournemouth, Palace and Burnley. Bowyer spoke about his future.

“Lyle is in a different situation, regarding financially,” Bowyer said. “He is going to earn money that he has never earned before, he has a lot of clubs queing up from what I understand, ready to take him.

“He’s earnt that, he’s been great. He’s helped us get into the Championship. His goals have given us a shout of staying in the league. If he gets injured, he won’t get a move that would set up his family for the rest of his life.”

TBR’s view – Taylor would be an excellent Rangers addition

Though not as a replacement for Alfredo Morelos. The Colombian is first choice at Rangers and the Gers should look to keep the Colombian – or replace him with the money that they get for his signature.

Jermain Defoe is second choice given his age, but retirement is closing in for the ex-England international. So, Taylor would be a good addition given the Rangers have no other options.

Experienced in Scotland after spells with Falkirk and Partick Thistle, he would be excellent cover for Morelos – or Morelos’ replacement.
