Lee Bowyer has told London News Online that Leeds United will be one of three sides to fight for promotion to the Premier League from the Championship this season – and has picked one side that are the team to beat.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have started the Championship campaign in excellent form, sitting on top of the pile on goal difference. They have won five of their eight games, drawing two and losing one.
However, Leeds fans will feel they should be three points clear. Two injury-time goals has cost them points against Swansea and then Derby County last time out – the latter seeing Chris Martin score in the 91st minute to rescue a point for Derby.
Former Leeds star Bowyer believes Leeds, Fulham and Swansea will be the three sides to contend for promotion to the Premier League this season – but reckons his old side are the team to beat, as his Charlton side go up against the Whites on Saturday.
“Leeds, Swansea and Fulham are all teams that will be up there,” Bowyer said. “From what I have seen live and on the telly, Leeds are the team to beat. If you finish above them then you’re getting promoted – I think it’s that simple.”

TBR’s view – Leeds are looking strong, but injuries are still there
Last season, many bemoaned the inability to turn chances into goals. Leeds led the way in terms of creativity, but they were unable to convert chances into goals more often than not.
However, injuries also played their part. So much so, Bielsa is yet to have a full compliment of players to pick from. Pablo Hernandez has been ruled out for Saturday’s clash, which is a big blow for the Whites.
If injuries mount up, Leeds may stutter as they did last term.
