'I worried at first': Ledley King says 'top, top' Tottenham player has surprised him this season
Tottenham might have lost to Brighton today but former defender, Ledley King, was full of praise for current centre-half, Cristian Romero, before a ball had been kicked.
Romero joined in the summer and will turn a loan move into an expensive permanent switch come the end of this season. So far, it looks like being a masterstroke from Spurs, who seem to have got one of the best defenders from Serie A signed up.
And speaking to BT Sport ahead of today’s game with Brighton, current Tottenham coach King admitted that Romero had surprised him with how good he’d been.
“I think he’s been brilliant. He came from Italy with a lot of attention on him from his performances in Italy and he’s settled into the Premier League straight away,” King said.
“You know, I looked at his record of yellow cards and I worried at first. But he seems to be able to play with an edge and he seems to be able to control himself. He reads the game extremely well. He likes to come out and play with the ball and he seems to fit the style of the team perfectly. Yeah, he’s a top, top player.”
Romero put in a decent enough display today against the Seagulls despite the loss. In all honesty, it was the attacking players of Spurs who let the team down today.
TBR’s View: Romero Could Be A Tottenham Great
It’s a lot of money that Spurs will end up paying for Cristian Romero but there is no doubting the calibre of player in there.
Romero has been superb for Antonio Conte and seems to have really settled into being one of the key men for Tottenham under the Italian. He is usually faultless during games and his passion, energy, and drive from the back has been key to Spurs’ recent success.
