During an interview with Sky Sports News, former Tottenham Hotspur captain Ledley King shared his thoughts on Christian Eriksen. When asked about Eriksen potentially leaving, King said that he looks happy and he showed his importance against Aston Villa.
Spurs beat Aston Villa 3-1 at the weekend with Eriksen coming off the bench to inspire a turnaround. The Danish midfielder has been linked with Real Madrid this summer – a move he would welcome (The Independent).
After six years with Tottenham, it could be time for a new challenge for Eriksen. But King believes he is settled at Tottenham and he is still an important part of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
King told Sky Sports News: “Nothing surprises me in football but Christian’s been an important member of the team and he still continues to be so. We saw at the weekend the impact that he had. So at the moment, he looks happy, he’s been involved in all of pre-season and he’s been involved in the game and had an impact. Of course, he’s an important player, as they all are in the squad, so we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Tottenham are battling to keep hold of Eriksen, especially with the European window still open. It is clear that the 27-year-old wants to join Real Madrid, with Juventus also keen, but Spurs have held firm so far.
Eriksen produced an impressive substitute cameo at the weekend to suggest he will still perform at his best if he stays with Spurs. But Tottenham risk losing him on a free if the two parties cannot thrash out a contract extension.
