‘Least of his worries’: Chris Sutton savages Filip Helander on Twitter after commentary gaffe

Rangers are through to the next round of the Scottish League Cup, but had to overcome a tough battle with Livingston to secure safe passage.

Glenn Kamara’s early goal proved key as Rangers fought off a spirited Livi battle to secure a 1-0 win.

It was a tough game for Rangers’ new signing Filip Helander. The Swedish defender has largely impressed since joining Steven Gerrard’s team this summer and appears to have usurped Nikola Katic in the pecking order.

However, he struggled throughout this game. Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes gave him plenty to think about throughout the game.

Helander was also fortunate not to receive a red card for a challenge on the Australian.

Chris Sutton, a well-known Celtic backer, was certainly unimpressed. In fact, he had so little care for the Rangers defender that he could not even get his name right.

He called the Ibrox star ‘Elmander’ in the first-half, annoying the Rangers fanbase on social media. Clearly, Sutton had got him confused with his countryman and former Bolton Wanderers striker Johann Elmander.

But he was fairly savage when that was pointed out to him on Twitter, suggesting it is the least of the Rangers defender’s worries.

Rangers fans will undoubtedly wish the BT pundit could just get their player’s name right in the first place. Put it this way, he would not have made the same mistake with a Celtic player.

As for Helander, today would have been a good learning curve regarding what Scottish football can be like. It will only help him improve and hopefully become a better player for Rangers going forward.

Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard will certainly hope that is the case.
