Newcastle United get their League Cup campaign underway this week, as they take on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. Newcastle, of course, have their main aim of the season. Remain a Premier League team. So the League Cup is perhaps not at the forefront of Rafa Benitez’s mind.
Which is not necessarily a problem. It gives Newcastle a chance to give some of their young players a chance in the first-team.
One man that Newcastle should give a chance to is attacking midfielder Sean Longstaff. The 20-year-old had an excellent season on loan at Blackpool last term. He played 45 times for the club, scored nine goals and provided six assists. In pre-season, he also impressed fans and Newcastle United seem to have a talent on their hands.

Fans have been calling for him to get a chance in the first-team at Newcastle now for some time.
But bringing him into Premier League action might seem a risk for Rafa Benitez, although he has been named on the bench this season.
However, the League Cup is the perfect opportunity for him to show what he can do in the Newcastle set-up.
If Newcastle can give him an extended period on the field, it could be the perfect way to start his career on Tyneside.
