Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has singled James Milner out for praise.
Heskey told Liverpool’s official website that Milner has great leadership skills. He also added that Milner’s training and lifestyle regime has allowed for a longer career and he praised his ability to adapt to new positions with ease.
Milner is an experienced part of Liverpool’s squad and Jurgen Klopp values his role. The 33-year-old is not a regular starter but he offers great depth in central midfield and in the full-back areas.
Heskey on Milner

Heskey knows Milner from their time together at Aston Villa and in the England team so he is not surprised to see his former team-mate still playing at the highest level.
He told liverpoolfc.com: “He was huge. Not only a leader on the pitch, but off the pitch as well. To play so many games from such a young age and to evolve as he has been fantastic. When I first got to Villa he was a winger and evolved into a central midfielder and now is an all-round player.
“He’s a lad that’s been looking after his body properly for many a year, so I’m guessing he’ll still go for a few more years if he wants to. He shows what you can do if you apply yourself and look after your body.”
TBR’s view
Milner continues to prove his worth for Liverpool – on and off the pitch. With his experience and nous, he can pass on valuable knowledge to Liverpool’s younger players.
But he also offers Klopp an alternative option in a number of positions. Milner is consistent, reliable, hardworking and a model professional. Add his penalties to the mix and he is a very important squad player at Anfield.
