‘Lawwell, yer some man’, ‘gutted’: Some Celtic fans react to announcement from overseas

A number of Celtic fans have given their thoughts on the news that Eboue Kouassi has left Parkhead to link up with Genk on a permanent basis.

The 22-year-old joined the Hoops from Russian outfit Krasnodar for a reported £2.8million under Brendan Rodgers’ watch in January 2017.

However, Kouassi failed to make much of an impact at Celtic, with just 22 appearances in all competitions across four seasons.

The midfielder also failed to score a goal under first Rodgers and later Neil Lennon, and was shipped out on loan to Genk in January.

Now, the Belgians have confirmed the signing of the Ivorian on a four-year contract.

“KRC Genk has activated the option to buy midfielder Eboue Kouassi, 22,” read a club statement, as translated by the Daily Record. “The Ivorian midfielder is taken outright from Celtic. Kouassi is now signed up until 2024.

“Due to a minor injury and the (global health) crisis, he has only played in four games so far, but Kouassi was in the starting XI for three games and completed the 90 minutes in the last two. He was able to convince everyone at the club of his qualities.”

The move could be followed by Ianis Hagi completing a permanent move from Genk to Rangers.
