Laurent Koscielny’s agent has reportedly held talks over potential Arsenal departure

The Frenchman will apparently decide whether to leave Arsenal in the coming weeks.

Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny is mulling over leaving the club this summer, according to a report by the Daily Telegraph.

They report that the Frenchman’s agent has been in talks with the club over departing within weeks, despite the fact he has a contract that runs for another season.

Koscielny reportedly earns £90,000 per week according to Spotrac, but the Telegraph say that has not put off potential suitors in his native France, such as Lyon and Rennes, who are named.

The report also points out that Unai Emery has already lost two senior players in the shape of Petr Cech and Aaron Ramsey, and Koscielny’s exit would signal the third departure out of five among that senior leadership group.

The report says that Koscielny will make a decision on his future in the coming weeks, but perhaps Emery could do with his captain coming to a conclusion sooner.

That’s so that he can finalise his pre-season plans as well as his transfer policy, because losing a senior defender like Koscielny would likely necessitate another signing to add to the backline.

It’s also not ideal that Koscielny would likely fetch no transfer fee – or a nominal one – given his advancing years.

Getting his wages off the bill would be a boost to getting in a new recruit in through the door, but in terms of net transfer spend, Koscielny’s departure could be a tricky one to deal with for a club who do not have Champions League money carrying them through.
