Laurens De Bock reminisces about Leeds on Instagram, but summer sale is inevitable

Laurens De Bock has posted a throwback to his time at Leeds United after joining the club from Belgian side Club Brugge in January 2018 – but a summer exit from Elland Road seems inevitable.

The 26-year-old defender was a £1.5million signing during Thomas Christiansen’s last months in charge. Leeds fans were excited at his arrival, given he had recently played in the Champions League against Leicester and FC Porto.

However, he failed to adapt to the rigours of English football. He managed just seven appearances for the Whites before being ostracised by Paul Heckingbottom – as the new gaffer preferred Tom Pearce.

Barry Douglas was signed from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer, and De Bock was thrown out on loan to KV Oostende back in his home country. Even on loan, he has only played 16 times this season.

He posted a Leeds throwback on Instagram – where he has a contract until June 2022. It remains to be seen what course of action he will take in the summer, as he approaches what is supposedly the peak of his career.

Recent reports from De Bock’s home country claim that Leeds are willing to offload the left-sided defender. According to Voetbal Belgie, Leeds want £1.5million for his services, after spending as much in 2018 (YEP).

With Douglas, Gjanni Alioski, Gaetano Berardi, Leif Davis and even Pearce ahead of him in the pecking order, De Bock may have no choice but to leave Leeds for the good of his career.

But Leeds may fail to find suitors for the beleaguered De Bock, given that he has struggled in Belgium. Just 23 games since joining Leeds almost 18 months ago, the summer could be a frustrating one for all parties involved.
