Plenty of Liverpool’s top stars have received credit among their incredible run of form. The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson, and Trent Alexander-Arnold have rightly been showered with praise.
But the reemergence of England international Joe Gomez has been a key factor in their recent defensive prowess.
Gomez has started Liverpool’s last nine Premier League fixtures at the heart of defence alongside Van Dijk. In that period, Liverpool conceded just once, when Raul Jimenez netted for Wolves.

It is amazing now to think that Gomez was being linked with a potential exit from Anfield in January.
Gomez was struggling for regular first-team football due to the form of Joel Matip.
That saw reports of unrest coming in the media. 90min even claimed that Gomez was considering an exit, with a move to London his preference and teams in Europe tempted by a loan approach. With Euro 2020 coming, it seemed Gomez wanted to secure a place as an England starter.
When the Cameroonian international picked up a knee injury at the start of December, the 22-year-old slotted back into the starting XI with aplomb. Talk of an exit now seems laughable, but back in October, it was suggested that Gomez was looking at a potential Anfield exit.
Now, it is hard to see how Liverpool would ever consider selling their extremely talented defender.
