Last summer’s transfer saga Jack Grealish gifts Tottenham Hotspur their comeback

Tottenham Hotspur fought hard for a 3-1 win against an impressive looking newly-promoted Aston Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

John McGinn had given the visitors the lead before Tanguy Ndombele scored a fine equaliser. A late brace from Harry Kane then secured the win for Tottenham.

However, Spurs were certainly given a helping hand by a player who could have so easily been a Tottenham star himself.

Jack Grealish was extremely close to joining Tottenham last summer. It was, indeed, the transfer saga of Tottenham’s 2018.

As reported by Sky Sports, Tottenham failed with a £25 million bid for the midfielder on transfer deadline day last August. The player was expected to be sold due to Aston Villa’s financial problems. However, Tottenham stalled for too long and by the time a bid arrived, those issues had been sorted.

Grealish went on to have a fantastic season with his hometown club and help them back into the Premier League.

For most of yesterday’s fixture, Grealish highlighted what he would have offered Tottenham going forward in an impressive display.

However, late on, he made a poor error that cost his side. Grealish dawdled on the ball inside his own half and was dispossessed by a typically bullish Erik Lamela. The ball was then eventually churned out at the feet of Kane, who provided a predictable finish. Luckily perhaps for Grealish, Kane’s second took the edge off the error.

Regardless, Grealish showed he definitely had the quality to one day be a Tottenham player. The club should certainly still be keeping tabs on the player going forward.
