'We have communication': Fabrizio Romano has just relayed some bad news for Arsenal and Chelsea fans
With the battle to sign Leeds star Raphinha still rumbling on for Chelsea and Arsenal, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has had his say on matters.
Raphinha is being tracked by both Arsenal and Chelsea as they look to prize him away from Elland Road in a big money deal this summer. However, Barcelona’s name has rumbled along in the background the entire time and while a move to Chelsea looked close last week, nothing has been sorted.
And tonight, Fabrizio Romano has just relayed some comments from Laporta which could spell bad news for both Arsenal and Chelsea’s Raphinha hopes. Romano quoted Laporta as saying that the Brazilian is indeed keen to join Barca, although the club president did admit other teams are keen.
It has been widely reported that Raphinha’s preference is indeed to join the Catalan giants. But their financial troubles have, so far anyway, prevented a deal from being done. Leeds are thought to be seeking around £60m at least to consider selling their star player.
Raphinha has reportedly been offered more than £100k-a-week on a five-year contract to sign for Chelsea.
TBR’s View: Raphinha Will End Up In Barcelona
The problem for Chelsea and Arsenal here is that if they were going to sign Raphinha, you feel a deal would have already been done and dusted. Both clubs have the funds to do business, so the delay suggests Raphinha is indeed waiting for Barca.
His agent, Deco, will no doubt be selling the Catalan club to him as well. For both Chelsea and Arsenal, this is the nightmare scenario really. They’ve gone from two-horse race to now essentially being played a bit.
The fact Laporta speaks so open on the subject as well, suggests Barcelona might just have a plan.
