Manuel Lanzini is back in training for West Ham United (The Independent).

The Argentinian playmaker has been out of action since last summer, after injuring his knee on the eve of the 2018  World Cup finals in Russia.

In the early stages of the season, it looked like West Ham would miss him greatly.

Four straight defeats had supporters ruing the fact that their talisman was absent from the starting XI.

The team gradually began to turn things around though, and now sit in a much healthier position of tenth in the table.

Apparently Lanzini is still ‘some time’ away from a first-team return, but the fact that he is already back in training is brilliant news, especially after it was feared he could miss the whole season.

The forgotten man is a quality player on his day, and will more than likely aid West Ham’s bid to finish in the top half when he does return.

Prior to his injury, Lanzini was the team’s creative spark and played a huge part in the rise of Marko Arnautovic. He registered six goals and seven assists in 2017/18.

A number of fantastic players have arrived on the scene since Lanzini’s last Hammers appearances, such as Felipe Anderson and Samir Nasri.

When he returns, it could just be enough to see them sneak into the top half, which would be a solid achievement for Manuel Pellegrini’s first season in charge.
