Erik Lamela could make his return from injury for Tottenham tonight in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Ajax.

The club’s official Twitter account tweeted photos of the squad boarding the plane to Amsterdam ahead of the game and the Argentine wideman was among the travelling party.

Mauricio Pochettino’s options have been limited by the injuries his thin squad have picked up during the course of a long season, meaning he had precious few options with which to alter the course of last week’s first leg.

Even if Lamela isn’t fully fit, he is still a more attacking option than any player Spurs had on their bench last week, when Pochettino was only able to swap his full-backs as he went in search of a late goal.

Lamela, who Spotrac claim earns £80,000 a week, can divide opinion among the fans and while he has not proved to be the direct replacement for Gareth Bale he was brought in to be, he could make a difference.

Any injury returns are welcome for Tottenham right now, who are in need of fresh ideas and impetus at the end of a long season, and facing this huge clash without injured talisman Harry Kane.
