In just two performances since his delayed return from injury, Andre Gomes has shown his quality in an Everton shirt.
The 25-year-old Barcelona loanee has displayed poise, power, passing range and dribbling range; which will have Toffees fans asking whether they have a purchase option in the loan deal.
On that score, it’s bad news. According to the Liverpool Echo (12:54, Tuesday 30 October), there is no such option in the deal.
On top of that, Gomes’ release clause is apparently 100 million euros.
That does not rule out the prospect that the Toffees could sign him next summer. After all, they have secured deals for Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne, so they clearly have a good working relationship with the Catalan giants.
But, if Gomes continues to impress, that will surely attract the interest of other sides; namely the top six in the Premier League.
The lack of an agreed deal opens the door for the big six to offer a better financial package or European football and turn Gomes’ head.
