Lack of buy-back clause is most incredible aspect of Celtic’s bargain Jeremie Frimpong deal

This weekend Celtic fans were left gushing at the latest display from one of their surprise summer signings.

Jeremie Frimpong was sensational yet again as his incredible start to life at Parkhead continued. It is not only his individual brilliance that is catching the eye but the clear impact his displays appear to have for Celtic as a whole. Celtic have won every game Frimpong has played this season, scoring 26 goals in those six fixtures.

It is remarkable that he cost just £350,000, as reported by the Scottish Sun, from Manchester City in the summer.

Of course, that is not the whole picture when it comes to Frimpong’s transfer deal. He could eventually end up costing Celtic £1 million due to add-ons and bonuses that his early form suggests he will meet.

That is according to a report from the Manchester Evening News. Celtic will also have to hand over 30 percent of profit they make on any sale of the Dutch talent. However, £1 million should still be considered a bargain and, on top of that, City do not have a buy-back clause in the deal.

That latter piece of information should be celebrated wildly by Celtic fans as it is a popular feature of the current City format. For example, they brought Spanish defender Angelino on a buy-back this summer.

Celtic need not worry. Frimpong is Celtic’s and at an eventual £1 million it looks like an absolute bargain.
