La Liga – Team of the Month

Welcome to the latest in my “Team of the Month” series where I pick the best players in each of Europe’s top five leagues.  This week it’s the turn of La Liga.

GK – Claudio Bravo (Real Sociedad) 30 years old

Bravo has conceded 3 goals so far this season which is as good a record as anyone in La Liga.  He hasn’t been flawless but his overall performances have been excellent and he deserves his place in the team.

RB – Javi Lopez (Espanyol) 27 years old
Lopez has made a good start to the season for Espanyol.  He likes to get up the pitch and is certainly not one to shirk a tackle.  He has played a key part in Espanyol’s unbeaten start to the season.

LB – Edu Albacar (Elche) 33 years old
The veteran left back has been a bit of a journey man throughout his career but he seems to be settled at Elche and is now entering his fourth season with the club.  He has made an excellent start to this year with the highlight being a goal against Almeria.

CB – Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid) 27 years old
Ramos has made an excellent start to the year for Real Madrid.  Some people don’t like him and it’s fair to say he lets himself down at times with discipline issues but he’s an excellent player and he is currently showing it.

Best Benchwarmer At EVERY Premier League Team

CB – Marc Valiente ( Valladolid) 26 years old
The ex-Barcelona man has made a great start to the season for Valladolid.  Valiente does not mess about at the back and if anything comes near him he won’t be shy in getting rid of it.

CM – Isco ( Real Madrid) 21 years old
This kid looks a bit special.  He has been a star performer for Malaga in recent seasons and he doesn’t seem to be affected by the increased pressure that comes with a move to Real Madrid.  3 goals and an assist are a great return in 4 games and it’s hard to see anything stopping him being one of the stars of the next decade.

CM – Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona) 26 years old
I’m not sure how close Fabregas came to leaving Barca in the summer but he seems to be in new manager, Gerardo Martino’s plans at present.  Fabregas hasn’t let his manager down either by providing 4 assists already.

CM – Ivan Rakitic (Sevilla) 25 years old
The Croatian international has made a good start to the season with Sevilla and has been the one positive in an otherwise disappointing start.  He scored a goal and got an assist against Barcelona but unfortunately for Sevilla they conceded with the last kick of the ball to lose.

CF – Leo Messi (Barcelona) 26 years old
Messi seems to be back to his usual self and is currently averaging two goals per game in La Liga.  Many doubted how he would be able to link up with Neymar but it doesn’t look as though it will be a problem and it should be another great year for the world’s best footballer.

CF – Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) 28 years old
Ronaldo hasn’t been at the top of his game this year for Real but even when he is underperforming it’s still better than most of the league.  Real have given him some support with the arrivals of Isco and Bale which in my opinion will make him even better as opposition defences have to concentrate more on his team mates.

CF – Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid) 24 years old
Atletico have made an excellent start to the season.  Costa has filled the gap left by Falcao’s departure, scoring 4 goals in 4 games.  He has made 2 friendly appearances for Brazil but in my opinion he is a better option than Fred or Jo and should be leading the line for Brazil next summer.
