Defender Kyle Walker has posted a classy message to Tottenham Hotspur on Instagram after the right-back helped Manchester City to another Carabao Cup trophy, breaking Spurs hearts – the club he played for for eight years.

Aymeric Laporte scored the only goal of the game as City dominated the match, but only managed to strike late on. Interim Spurs boss Ryan Mason failed to make it two wins from two, after taking over from Jose Mourinho last week.

It was Pep Guardiola’s 30th senior trophy in football management and the fourth time he has won the Carabao Cup. It is certainly not going to be the only one title they win, but it could be the first of three – if they win in Europe.

Walker, 30, played 229 times for Tottenham during a spell which ended in 2017 – having joined the club from Sheffield United in the summer of 2009. He has since moved to City, where he has played 179 times, league and cup.

Clearly still holding a soft spot towards Spurs, Walker took to Instagram after the match to send a touching and classy message to the North London club – but only after helping City dispatch of Harry Kane and co with a 1-0 win.
