Kyle Walker-Peters has revealed he has no hard feelings over his exit from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

The full-back departed for Southampton in a deal reported to be worth £12 million (Daily Mail), with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg moving in the opposite direction for about £20 million.

Having spent the second half of 2019/20 on loan with the Saints, Walker-Peters had been convinced by life on the south coast.

His permanent switch to Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side has been very successful so far.

He’s become a permanent fixture in the starting lineup, and the team are flying high in sixth position.

That is certainly vindication for leaving north London, something Walker-Peters feels was needed.

He told the Guardian: “It was tough leaving Tottenham. I was training and playing with some of the best players in the world. I got to play in the Champions League. But I was at a stage in my career where I needed to show everyone what I can do.”

The 23-year-old left the club on good terms, and revealed the player he still talks to daily.

“I’m still in contact with all my mates there,” he added. “I talk to Dele [Alli] every day. And they’re all happy for me.”

TBR’s View – Southampton-Spurs deal working out well

The deal involving Walker-Peters and Hojbjerg looks to have worked out really well for both parties.

Walker-Peters needed a fresh start and will be glad to have taken the plunge, while Hojbjerg has transformed Spurs with his tenacity and leadership.

And separately, one wonders if Walker-Peters’ pal Dele will also feel the need to leave Spurs soon, given his struggles of breaking into the team under Jose Mourinho.
