Kundai Benyu is back at Celtic following the end of his loan spell at Swedish side Helsingborgs. The 21-year-old Zimbabwe international joined the club in February and worked with Celtic legend Henrik Larsson at the club. However, after Larsson departed, Benyu struggled to find regular playing time at the club.
The midfielder was highly-rated by Brendan Rodgers when the club snapped him up from Ipswich Town in 2017. As reported by the Daily Record, the then Celtic boss admitted his surprise at the youngster’s ability upon arriving in Glasgow.

However, despite initially featuring as a first-team player, Benyu soon found himself out of the picture at Celtic. A disappointing loan spell at Oldham Athletic followed and now his spell in Sweden has not exactly gone to plan either.
“He’s been very good. He’s surprised me to be honest. We knew he was a good player. You see what we’re trying to build here in terms of players being technically gifted.
“But they have to have good mobility and good physicality. And he has that. He’s played with a nice little edge, he’s competitive. And he’s got a confidence.”

So what next for Benyu?
It would certainly appear as though his career is likely to be away from Celtic. It is a shame because he looked like being an under-the-radar gem after his impressive 2017 pre-season.
But with Rodgers now gone and with two uninspiring loan spells under his belt it is hard to see Neil Lennon giving him a chance in Celtic’s pursuit of silverware.
Instead, it seems as though Benyu will have to find himself a new club to continue his career.
