A number of Arsenal fans have been praising Joe Willock’s display in Wednesday’s pre-restart friendly defeat against Brentford at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners were beaten 3-2 by the Championship side as Willock put his side ahead in the first half, firing home after a great run from Hector Bellerin.

Arsenal led at the break as Arteta fielded a different team in the second half, and Brentford restored parity through Tariq Fosu.

Alexandre Lacazette then put the hosts ahead again, but further goals from Halil Dervisoglu and Shandon Baptiste were enough for the Bees to triumph.

While the defeat showed there’s plenty of work to be done, particularly at the back, Willock’s goalscoring display – he now has two strikes in two games – was one of the few positives on the day.

Here is what some Arsenal fans said on social media about the academy graduate:

Willock, 20, has become a regular in the Arsenal squad this season, playing 32 games in all competitions before the suspension of the season in March.

The midfielder made his Gunners breakthrough in 2017-18, appearing in the Europa League and League Cup before making his Premier League debut against Newcastle United in April 2018.
