This summer saw Leeds United on the hunt for a new left-back. Laurens De Bock had been deemed unfit for purpose and for some time there were fears Tom Pearce could leave. One of the first names that popped up was that of little-known Union Berlin defender Kristian Pedersen.
It was German publication Bild who first linked the Dane with a move to Leeds United.
It certainly looked a likely transfer. However, Leeds movements in the early transfer market were severely restricted. Paul Heckingbottom was sacked not long after the rumours emerged. As Leeds hunted big game in Marcelo Bielsa the transfer side of things was put on the back-burner.
In the meanwhile, Pedersen was snapped up by a former Leeds manager.

Birmingham City boss Garry Monk signed the player. Costing a reported £2.2 million, the Dane arrived at St Andrew’s under a cloud due to the club’s ongoing transfer embargo.
Eventually, he was allowed to register and Leeds would not have gone wrong bringing the player in.
Pedersen has been one of the stand-out stars for Birmingham this season. His no-nonsense style has fans purring in the stands and he is approaching cult status already.
Leeds, in the end, got a brilliant left-back themselves. Barry Douglas is a great option and more suited to how Marcelo Bielsa wants his full-backs to operate. But judging on his showings for Birmingham, Leeds would not have gone far wrong signing the Dane either.
