Kris Commons says he has more chance of playing for Rangers, than Jordan Jones

Kris Commons has claimed in his Daily Mail column that he has more of a chance of pulling on a Rangers shirt this season, than Northern Ireland international Jordan Jones does – amid reports the player could leave.

Jones, 25, managed just 14 appearances in all competitions for Rangers last season after completing a Bosman move from Kilmarnock. He failed to score for the Gers, laying on just two appearances. He saw red against Celtic.

The Daily Record claimed last month that Jones has been told he can leave Rangers and that Steven Gerrard will not stand in his way should a move materialise. It is believed Stoke, Middlesbrough and Blackburn are interested.

Commons – who played 227 times for Celtic in seven years – has claimed that he has more chance of playing for Rangers this season than Jones, after the latter was left out of the side that beat Aberdeen 1-0.

“I think we can safely assume that Jones won’t be there for much longer. There’s probably more chance of me getting a game on the wing for Rangers this season than him,” Commons said.

TBR’s view – Jones has too many names ahead of him

Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi are clearly Rangers’ best two options out wide – while Greg Stewart, Brandon Barker and Jamie Murphy all watched on from the substitute bench on Saturday afternoon.

Jake Hastie has gone on loan, Glenn Middleton could follow him while Scott Arfield and Joe Aribo can do a job out wide. Rangers have plenty of options on the flanks – and that means Jones is likely to depart.
