Kris Boyd says Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil is too good for his Gunners team-mates

Kris Boyd feels that Mesut Ozil is ‘one step ahead’ of his Arsenal team-mates despite being continually left out of the first team by Unai Emery.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Boyd feels that the German playmaker has to wait for his team-mates to catch up or get onto his wavelength.

He said of Ozil: “I think he’s good too good a football player for the guys who’s behind him. I think he’s a step ahead. He sees things, for me, when he’s taking one, two, three touches, he’s waiting on people moving.

“I know the Arsenal fans criticise him for workrate, but he does deliver.”

TBR’s View – Ozil clearly has creativity to offer this Arsenal side

It’s tough to see what Unai Emery gains from freezing out a player he could use in certain matches, and even if he’s that wedded to offloading, needs to be in the shop window.

In games where Arsenal need to break down a deep defence, Ozil would be useful. He is also adept at playing rapid players through on the counter attack.

To cut him out completely, when even the likes of Shkodran Mustafi is getting games in the Europa League, does not make any sense.

At the very least, Ozil needs to be playing if Arsenal want to sell or loan him in the January transfer window.
