Rangers striker Kemar Roofe made his Europa League debut for the club and capped it with a wonder goal – leading to Kris Boyd making an early-season prediction on Instagram.
The talisman arrived from Anderlecht in the summer for £3 million but has struggled to get his feet under the table after picking up an injury.
Roofe was only thrown on for 16 minutes of last night’s game, with Rangers leading 1-0 against Standard Liege at the time.
With the seconds ticking by and Rangers edging ever closer to a vital three points, Roofe got down to business.
The former Championship striker saw the goalkeeper off his line and fired an unstoppable effort over his head from just inside his own half of the pitch.
It led to pandemonium among the players and coaching staff and afterwards Roofe received a bold prediction from the former striker after putting a post on Instagram.
Boyd is a player who knows all about scoring goals for the famous Glaswegian giants having spent five years at the club across two spells.
He netted 128 goals in 191 appearances during the first stint at Ibrox before returning four years later and scoring another 10 times.
Roofe now has three for his new club and he will hope to stay free of injury and rival Alfredo Morelos for a place in the team.
A few more goals of this nature will certainly help, although his instinct will see him fancy a couple of tap-ins too.
Boyd could be right with his prediction and it would be a shock if there was a better goal than Roofe’s in this season’s competition.
His David Beckham-esque moment will live long in the memory and the challenge now for Roofe is to continue grabbing the headlines.
