This summer will undoubtedly be a big one for Arsenal, after their struggles in the Premier League this season.

The Gunners have struggled throughout the current campaign, with Unai Emery losing his job as a consequence.

Mikel Arteta will be looking to make some changes in the summer to put his own stamp on the club and improving at centre-back will be key.

The likes of David Luiz, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Shkodran Mustafi, Callum Chambers and Rob Holding have all been inconsistent this season and Pablo Mari was brought in from Flamengo in January.

But a current Arsenal loanee could save the Gunners millions in the transfer market in the summer when it comes to bringing in a new central defender.

Not William Saliba, the £27 million incoming recruit from Saint-Etienne. Instead, it is Konstantinos Mavropanos who is looking capable of being a top Arsenal player.

Arsenal signed the little known Greek talent from PAS Giannina for a fee in the region of £1.9 million in January 2018, as reported by The Guardian. He arrived whilst Arsene Wenger was still manager but has still managed a handful of appearances for the Gunners despite the Frenchman’s exit. However, with first-team opportunities low, he was loaned out to German side 1.FC Nurnberg in January.

He has since been in fine form for the 2.Bundesliga side. WhoScored have awarded him with man-of-the-match for the past two games with the Bavarian side, in which Der Club have not conceded.

Mavropanos is highly rated by plenty of Arsenal fans and his form will have many hopeful of a bright future in North London for the Greek talent. If so, along with Saliba, he could save Arsenal going into the transfer market to bring in extra defensive cover.
