Kolo Toure reacts as Arsenal loanee Miguel Azeez makes Wigan debut

Kolo Toure has suggested that Arsenal loanee Miguel Azeez was one of the players who was immense as the midfielder came on to make his Wigan Athletic debut on Saturday – in comments reported by Wigan Today.

The Latics remain bottom of the Championship and have not won any of their last seven games in all competitions. But they did manage to earn a credible point away at Cardiff City on Saturday, with Will Keane scoring a stoppage-time goal to earn Toure’s men a point.

The game saw Azeez make his debut for the visitors. The 20-year-old arrived on loan for the rest of the season after spending the first-half of the campaign at Ibiza.

Only one Wigan player managed to contribute a greater number of key passes than the Gunners youngster, according to Whoscored. Unsurprisingly, that player, Max Power, played the full 90 minutes.

And Toure suggested that he was very happy with what he saw from Azeez as he reflected the impact the entire bench made.

“They scored a goal they perhaps deserved, in my opinion, but we showed our fighting spirit again,” he said, as reported by Wigan Today.

“The bench was immense, all of the boys who came on contributed…Thelo (Aasgaard), Josh (Magennis), Ashley (Fletcher), Miguel…and I’m pleased with the point, definitely.”

It has the potential to be a pivotal moment for Azeez. Previously, he looked destined for the Arsenal first-team, catching the eye with some spectacular goals at various age groups.

A couple of underwhelming loans have potentially set Azeez back slightly over the last 12 months. But a spell in the Championship could be fantastic for the talented midfielder.

With Arsenal absolutely flying right now, it is going to be difficult for the starlet to really catch Mikel Arteta’s eye while he is away at the DW Stadium.

Certainly, the midfield prospect Arsenal fans appear to be most excited about is Charlie Patino.

But Azeez has now joined him in the Championship. So it is certainly an exciting opportunity for him to take his game to that next level.
