Klopp will reportedly start 'underrated' player for Liverpool tonight, it's a no-brainer - TBR View
According to The Times, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will bring Joel Matip back into the starting XI tonight.
The Reds have not played since their 4-1 thrashing against Napoli in their Champions League opener last week.
Klopp named Joe Gomez in the Liverpool starting XI in that game, but he really struggled against the Partenopei.
And The Times claims that the Reds boss has already decided to start Matip against Ajax this evening.
As far as decisions go, this is a no-brainer from Klopp.
Gomez was seriously below-par against Napoli, and Liverpool simply have to bounce back as soon as possible.
Admittedly, Matip was caught out for the fourth goal, but he was a noticeable improvement on Gomez.
The 31-year-old adds experience at the back for Liverpool and his partnership with Virgil van Dijk is outstanding.
“He’s a special, special character and we all appreciate him in our group,” the Dutchman told the Liverpool media team last year.
“Not only for his qualities – because he’s an unbelievable defender – but as a human being as well.
“He’s how everyone should take life, I think – very easy, be nice and put a lot of things in perspective.
“We all appreciate him. But it’s just been good being around everyone.”
Indeed, Micah Richards recently claimed that Matip was better than Van Dijk last season.
“I think he’s underrated,” he told LADBible TV.
“I think he started ok, had the injuries, but as you watch him – last season, he was arguably better than Van Dijk, in my opinion.”
