Report: Klopp realised something against Leeds that he’s now going to put into practice at Tottenham

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is set to revert to a tried and tested formation this weekend against Tottenham after the painful result against Leeds.

In recent weeks Klopp has been deploying a more direct formation with two up front. That’s seen Mo Salah operating more centrally and the likes of Firmino and Nunez dovetailing around him where they can. Of course, it’s a formation which has seen mixed results, especially domestically.

Liverpool have lost to both Nottingham Forest and Leeds playing that way. And according to The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, those results will force Klopp to revert to his favoured 4-3-3 this weekend at Tottenham.

Writing in his weekly Reading the Game column, Delaney says those two results have made Klopp realise Liverpool’s slump is more than just tactics. With that in mind, he is set to revert to type.

That means we are likely to see Salah back out wide. The issue comes down the left. Luis Diaz is out, while Darwin Nunez was signed as a striker. Roberto Firmino can play there, while young Fabio Carvalho could feature for balance.

Certainly, it seems Klopp has his hands full in trying to get things right for Liverpool right now.

TBR’s View: Liverpool need to stick to what they know

Sometimes in football, going back to basics can be the very best thing to do. And for Liverpool, going with a tried and tested 4-3-3 could be ideal at Spurs.

Sure, they won’t have their best players available for each position. But having balance and the likes of Salah in a role he knows best will surely yield better results.

This weekend feels like a massive game for Liverpool. If they lost, it’s basically season over. Win, though, and it will show everyone they are still here to make a noise.
