Liverpool were able to keep Harry Kane reasonably quiet yesterday as Jurgen Klopp’s side eventually won out against Tottenham at Anfield yesterday, thanks to Toby Alderweireld’s late own goal.
The Reds toiled during the second half but eventually got the win they needed to keep the pressure on Manchester City and go back to the top of the league.
Kane’s only real contribution of note was the quick free-kick that led to Lucas Moura’s second-half equaliser but Jurgen Klopp expressed just how much an admirer of the England captain he is.
According to the Sunday People, page 54, 31/03, Klopp said: “He’s just a fantastic player, it’s the truth. I respect how he came up. His career is fantastic.”

“I think there’s one picture where Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane are sat together on the bench at Leicester. Harry did it the hard way. It’s not like he came up at 18 years old as a talent.
“It’s difficult to play against him. It’s just not about Kane because Tottenham are a top team but what a striker! What a team Tottenham are.”
Klopp’s praise of Tottenham gives a clue about how relieved he will have been to have escaped Anfield with all three points against a side he was so impressed by in the lead-up to the game and who really came into proceedings in the second half.
But keeping Kane off the scoresheet always gives the opposition a chance of winning against Spurs and that’s exactly what Liverpool did.
