Klopp should shift back to 4-3-3 to get Liverpool a result against Paris Saint Germain

Jurgen Klopp has tinkered with Liverpool’s attacking formula this season as his Reds frontline has dropped slightly from the standard it set last season.

Perhaps it’s because Xherdan Shaqiri has performed better than expected, or the German is worried about his side being sussed out, but he has gone with a 4-2-3-1 for certain Premier League engagements of late.

That system has helped keep the Reds hot on Manchester City’s heels but Liverpool face a different test tomorrow night when they travel to France to face the might of Paris Saint Germain with their Champions League destiny on the line.

Win, and the chances are that Klopp’s side will book their place in the knockout stages of a competition they so thrillingly reached the final of last time around.

That European rampage last season was brought about by a high-tempo 4-3-3 system that is ideally suited for getting results against elite sides, because it doesn’t give them an inch in which to play.

That’s why, despite the success of the 4-2-3-1 of late, Klopp should revert back to the formula that was so successful on the continent last season.

PSG are still a disjointed side who are not quite accustomed to sticking together in the face of elite opposition and Liverpool can take full advantage tomorrow.

If they don’t, their European hopes will hang by a thread.
