Report: Klopp set to hand 'unbelievable' Liverpool player his chance against City
Liverpool take on Manchester City this weekend in what is seen as the major fixture in English football right now.
The two Premier League behemoths go head to head at Anfield, with City looking to consolidate their position near the summit and Liverpool knowing they desperately need a win to even have a sniff of catching up further down the line.
Of course, Jurgen Klopp has a number of injury issues to contend with and that means he’s got some big calls to make. And according to The Mirror, one of those big calls is the inclusion of Joe Gomez at right back, where Klopp is expected to name the 25-year-old in his starting XI in place of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Gomez played a big part in Liverpool’s 7-1 demolition job of Rangers in midweek and provided a wonderful assist for Bobby Firmino as well. Coincidentally, that assist Trent-esque and showed Klopp just what he can contribute in the attacking third.
Dubbed as ‘unbelievable‘ by Kris Boyd for his performance at Ibrox, Gomez will know that the likes of Phil Foden and Joao Cancelo will offer up a much firmer test than midweek.
Gomez has only played 45 minutes in the last four PL games and will need to be at his best to cancel out City.
TBR’s View: Joe Gomez Deserves Liverpool Chance
Gomez has been waiting patiently for a consistent chance with Liverpool and he now looks set to be given a run in a position he played a lot as a youngster.
The quality of centre-backs at Liverpool has seen Gomez have to be patient and there were rumours in the summer that he might even be on his way out. However, he has stuck at it and is set to reap the rewards.
Gomez will offer Liverpool that defensive stability Jurgen Klopp craves and against City, the Reds will very much need that stability to have any chance of success.
