'It's disappointing': Klopp confirms bad news regarding £200k-a-week Liverpool star
Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, has confirmed that the Reds could be without Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara for this weekend’s game with Watford.
The Spaniard looks set to miss out on being available for selection against the Hornets, although Klopp did confirm that Diogo Jota and Trent Alexander-Arnold are fit and ready.
Thiago, who earns around £200k-a-week at Liverpool, has struggled with injuries ever since arriving at the club. It’s led to some inconsistencies in his game, with Reds fans not really seeing the best of him as yet.
“Trent and Diogo are available. Thiago, I don’t know. It takes time. It’s disappointing, but we’ve known for a few days now. We have to wait,” Klopp told his press conference.
For Klopp, it could mean some big selection headaches in the midfielder area. Harvey Elliott is out for the season, while Curtis Jones is also missing as well. With Thiago now also doubtful, the Reds boss will be fearful of a repeat of last season’s injury woes.
Liverpool also lost Gini Wijnaldum in the summer. The decision not to replace him was questioned at the time. And with Thiago now struggling again, it’s bound to come to light again.
TBR’s View: Thiago having rotten Liverpool luck
There was so much excitement about when the Spaniard signed for Liverpool. But ever since, it’s just not quite got going for him.
Injuries have been a nightmare for Thiago. And while it’s not been anything major, it always seems to be something small keeping him out of getting into a routine of playing.
A Liverpool team with a fit Thiago is a better team overall. Klopp, then, will hope his man can get right ASAP.
