Jurgen Klopp is weighing up taking a sabbatical from football when his current contract with Liverpool runs out in 2022, according to ESPN.
They report that the German manager has acknowledged how intense the demands of the job are and has previously expressed an interest in taking a year out of the game.
There is apparently a strong relationship between Klopp and the Reds board – so there’s no need for the fans to panic – but they don’t want to put him in a position where he’s snubbing a new deal.
The Telegraph reported recently that Liverpool wanted to extend Klopp’s deal in the light of Saturday’s Champions League win.

Pep Guardiola of course took a sabbatical between leaving Barcelona and joining Bayern Munich and the current Manchester City boss has never stayed at a club longer than four years – it’s just too intense.
Klopp makes a habit of longer spells – spending seven years apiece at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund – and getting to 2022 would make it another seven since arriving in 2015.
But that’s a long time to be at the top of the game, with the relentless pressure of modern football management, and not many people could begrudge Klopp a rest if he did take a year out.
At the moment, he looks happy, settled and has a fantastic squad of players who can go on and win more silverware.
