Klopp joked with Alexander-Arnold that any Liverpool right-back would rack up assists
Joe Gomez started at right-back for Liverpool in their 2-0 win against Watford and made an assist Trent Alexander-Arnold would be proud of.
Gomez whipped in a great cross from the right hand side which was headed home by Diogo Jota to open the scoring.
Fabinho sealed the win and speaking to BT Sport after the game, Jurgen Klopp shared the joke he had with Alexander-Arnold on the bench when Gomez laid on the goal.
“It was a great goal, great cross from Joey,” said Klopp. “Diogo’s header was perfect.
“There was not a lot for Watford really, we were in control. I had big banter with (Trent) on the bench, saying that it’s not him, it’s just the position! It’s just who makes the crosses.
“The cross was outstanding.”
There aren’t many players in world football who can match Alexander-Arnold’s crossing ability but Klopp’s system allows his full-backs so much freedom to attack.
Gomez took full advantage of that, despite being a central defender by trade and that got the opening goal against stubborn opponents.
That shows that the Reds have difference makers all over the squad and it must be great as a manager when you can bring someone in from the cold and they do that.
