Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been described by Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez as a “great coach”.

The Reds and Martinez’s Nerazzurri lock horns in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Martinez was reportedly on the Reds’ radar several years ago, and links surfaced again ahead of the January window.

According to a Calciomercato report from December, Liverpool are still “desiring” the Argentina international.

The Reds apparently view Martinez as a potential successor to Roberto Firmino.

Klopp has made no secret of his admiration for the 24-year-old.

“Lautaro Martinez is one of the most exciting strikers in the world, probably,” he told the Liverpool media team in December after the Reds drew Inter in the last 16.

On Tuesday, Martinez responded to Klopp’s comment, in conversation with Amazon Prime via FCInterNews.

“I’m happy to hear him say that, and I say thank you,” he said.

“Klopp is a great coach. He will certainly prepare his team well for this match.

“We have to do well, hurt them, and move forward.”

Martinez has scored 12 goals in 31 appearances across all competitions this season.

He has scored 11 goals in 22 appearances in Serie A and one in the Supercoppa Italia clash against Juventus in January.

Martinez joined Inter from Argentina’s Racing Club in 2018 and recently extended his contract until 2026.

The £22.5million signing reportedly had a price tag of 90million euro (around £75million) last year, as per Tuttosport.
